Chan I am

I will go see Dave near and far
I will go see Dave in a plane or car

I will go see Dave in OKC
Its Bricktown Ballpark was where to be

Indoors, outdoors I don't care
I will go see Dave anywhere

Young, old, as long as I can
I will go see Dave, Chan I am

Last night, Kevin and I took in our 15th Dave Matthews Band concert, which was sadly the last one for us this summer.

It was a different experience for us this time. The concert was at a baseball stadium, the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark to be exact. Bricktown is like Wichita's Old Town, except better. They have a canal that offers boat tours, and a ballpark and arena all within walking distance. It is quite charming.

Since Kevin and I are old and lame, we arrived to Bricktown with plenty of time to spare. We had a delicious dinner at Jazmo's Bourbon Street Cafe, and then we walked around and enjoyed the atmosphere of a city anticipating a big event. There were people everywhere.

Once inside the ballpark, the sport of people watching began.

The DMB demographic is very wide. We saw silver hair, recent empty nesters, families and oodles of college kids. It is the rare occasion when I can look around and see my past, present and future.

All the people watching made me very happy about who I am right now and who I plan to be in the future. It also made me feel relieved about who I am no longer.

I'm not so young that I need to try to impress people with who I think I want to be. I'm over it. I will wear what I like, what is comfortable and what I can afford. If you don't like it, you are out of luck. If I want to wear sensible shoes, I'm gonna.

Then there was the couple sitting right in front of us. They are who I hope to be in twenty years or so.

They found their seats, and the wife sat down. They had a quick conversation, and then the husband left. A few minutes later, he came back with two beers. Then there was another quick conversation. A few minutes later, he came back with popcorn for her and peanuts for himself. Then he gave her detailed directions to the restroom, and she left.

That is what I want in a nutshell.

As many times as I can, I want to see DMB live and get directions to the bathroom.

  1. My youngest sis (28) loves DMB but I don't think she has seen the concert as much as you. LOL She would be jealous.

I came to you via SITS! I was intrigued by your profile. Sounds like there is some story there!
I'm glad you found the love of your life.
I can't wait to read more!

  2. So how long were you in the stadium before the concert started? The picture of the crane lifting the giant stack of speakers is very cool -- I take it you got to see the sound check and all that?
