For the love of links

So there's this guy, Bobby Rozzell, who started Douglas and Main, which serves as a sort of hub for Wichita bloggers.

I think the idea is genius. I've put his creation in my Google Reader and look forward to the updates.

The other day, he blogged about Sarah Vowell coming to Wichita. I had no idea. But he included the somewhat secretive ticket information. I was off to Watermark Books that very day to retrieve my tickets.

Shortly thereafter, I asked my co-worker, Natalie, who writes at RedSwann of Kansas, if she had heard that Sarah Vowell was coming to town. She definitely seems like a person that would appreciate Sarah's dry wit. I tried to explain what Sarah is all about, but I ended up talking more about This American Life.

Since Natalie has not heard of Sarah Vowell or This American Life, I am bringing her far too many CDs of various episodes I have burned for past road trips. Is there anything better to listen to for miles upon miles? Hardly.

Last Tuesday, the same Natalie mentioned that she had found my blog during her search for Wichita bloggers. Even though she had already disclosed her blog to me, I was hesitant to think she would care about the thoughts that seep out of my head. And like I told her, I heard someone once say, "Blogs are like grandchildren, everyone has them and nobody cares."

So then I got to tell her all about Douglas and Main, and now we are right back to where we started.

I love that my community is growing, slightly.
