Concerts are not jukeboxes

Two recent concerts have given local fans much to discuss. The concerts were the Black Crowes and Bruce Springsteen. I did not get to attend either, but apparently neither of them played many "hits."

This has some casual fans a little upset.

Denise Neil wrote a complaint-filled piece about it in yesterday's paper.

She said that she is a B-level Springsteen fan and is only familiar with one decade of music, 1984 to 1994.

According to allmusic.com, Bruce Springsteen's career has spanned four decades. So if Denise only knows one, then that is 25 percent.

Maybe she has been out of school too long to remember what a 25 percent gets you.

It gets you an F.

She is an F-level fan.

Musicians who are fortunate enough to have long and healthy careers have long and healthy songbooks. They are the best ambassadors for their music. They know which songs they have recently tweaked and which songs are going to make the magic happen.

When I am in the presence of a living legend, I just want to sit back enjoy the show. They know what they are doing. Just appreciate the talent. And if you hear something new, thank them for broadening your musical horizon.

When I went to Kansas.com to grab the link to Denise's article, I noticed I was not the only one who was bugged by her remarks. They are definitely recommended reading.

Readers say Boo to Denise

  2. Oops...let's try this again.

I was just saying that "F-level fan" is very funny.

    What a silly, useless review.
