I knew I got up early for a reason

I thought it was because I had a dream my sister got married in a bathroom, but it was really because I had an assignment.

I am happy about it, too. It's like being picked for Red Rover. I mean...I imagine it is like being picked for Red Rover.

Six random things about me:

1. When I was in the fourth grade, my mom was elected mayor of Goddard. She was a write-in candidate with homemade signs, and she still won by a landslide. I bought her one carnation after school as a congratulations. I put it in a vase on the stove top. When she came home from work and saw it was from me, she gave me the biggest hug I had ever gotten before or have gotten since.

2. I cry a little whenever I see a marching band perform well. I was in my high school's band, and I know how much work it is and how it feels to pull it off. I am always ridiculously proud of them, even if I don't know them.

3. I think people who don't make their beds in the morning are lazy.

4. My dad learned Morse code in the Army. After he was discharged, he applied for a job with a railroad in Colorado. The code it used was slightly different than what my dad knew, and he couldn't compensate. He went to business school in Salina instead. If it weren't for that tiny difference in code, I would have had an entirely different life.

5. Sometimes I watch Oprah, but I swear I only read the articles.

6. I love appliances from the 1950s. Even though it might drive me plain mad, a part of me romanticizes about being a housewife in that era. It looks like a kinder and gentler time. Plus, smoking wasn't bad for you back then.
