The First 10K

I finished my first 10K "race" on Saturday.

My official time was 1:07:14, which put me in 690th place. My pace was 10:50/mile.

Kaboom!

When I put this run on my calendar, I didn't really do it with much seriousness. But then the more I kept running the more it seemed possible.

Even though I had already reached this distance (and a bit more) on my own, this run was difficult.

The last kilometer was really tough. The route went back out toward some water and the wind had picked up, so it was cold. Not to mention, I was SO tired.

All of the unfamiliar sights, sounds and people always make running these organized events much more difficult than when I run on my own in my 'hood.

What is most interesting to me is how sore I am today, more sore than after any running I've done for months. And I just don't have an explanation for that.

Charley and Kevin came out to support me, and Charley was put in charge of documenting the race.

And then I had plenty of time on my hands this Sunday morning, so I made this wonderfully cheesy video using everything but a star wipe. Enjoy!
