On being likeable

I do think that I am.

However, I do not think I am for everyone.

This was brought on today by this quote:

“I’ve always believed that when you are authentic and 100% yourself, people will either love you or hate you. You draw a line in the sand and people are divided. It makes finding your ideal community or tribe a heck of a lot easier.”
— Erin Blaskie

from Steph's blog.

How great is this? So great.

I don't like the present-day use of the word tribe, but I do like everything else.

There are some people who don't like me. There SO are. Actually, I'm pretty sure there are several.

But that is all right. What I'm putting out there is not what they need or want. That doesn't make me or them bad.

But I'm equally convinced there are some people who think I'm freaking fantastic.

And that is my favorite.

I used to want to be one of those people who everyone liked. I wanted to be the popular kind.

Now it just seems exhausting.

I don't want everyone to like me, and I certainly don't want to like everyone.

Two side notes:

On more than one occasion, someone who I didn't like at all upon first introductions turned out to be someone I ended up liking a whole hell of a lot.

I still get a bit giddy when I get a Facebook friend request from someone who I do really want to be friends with.
