I read a whole fiction book! Charley told me that Hunger Games was SO good and I just HAD to read it. So I did. And it wasn't terrible! I even liked it enough to get the second one from the trilogy from the library, too. I wonder if this means my no fiction rule has expired. Am I a new kind of reader?
Kevin and I are volunteering as pre-screeners for the Tallgrass Film Festival, and it's fantastic. They get hundreds of movies submitted to them for consideration in hopes of being included in the actual festival in October. Somebody has to help whittle down the pile, get rid of the clutter. So every week I go to the Tallgrass office and pick up a couple of feature films and several shorts. After we watch them we submit a report on each one explaining why we do or do not recommend the film. We've seen some junk, some so bad it's funny, but we've also seen a couple of great, great pieces.
Remember how much I loved Communication Week when I was still a student? No? Well, I did. A lot. And now I've been asked to be on the planning committee for this year's! Sweet!
Speaking of school, I'm going back! Well, for one class. It's a multimedia class with one of my favorite instructors from the ESC. As a bonus, it should be free since I'm technically a WSU employee and I'm taking it with one of my co-workers, Briana O'Higgins, and she's a hoot.
And on a much more serious note, Joplin. My sister lives in Joplin with her boyfriend and teenage daughter. They were fine, but it's scary to think about how close they were to not being fine. A grocery store was demolished just 20 minutes after they were in it. She doesn't have a basement, so they rode it out in a closet under her stairs. She didn't have electricity for a week and a half, her roof was severely damaged, a ceiling has caved in and she has broken windows. The stories coming out there are horrific, and I'm so thankful one of them is not about her.
I don't know what else, but good Lord that seems like enough anyway.
